Enslaved (англ. «пленённый», «порабощённый») — норвежская блэк- (в начале карьеры)/прогрессив/викинг-метал группа. Группу создали в 1991 году Ивар Бьорнсон (Ivar Bjørnson) и Грутле Хьелльсон (Grutle Kjellson), которым в тот момент было 13 и 17 лет соответственно. В начале карьеры Enslaved играли блэк-метал, хотя участники группы никогда не имели отношения к сатанизму или поджогам церквей и не носили корпспэйнт. Начиная с альбома Mardraum: Beyond the Within группа больше тяготела к прогрессиву, викинг-металу и стилевому эклектизму. Тексты ранних альбомов, которые посвящены в основном скандинавской мифологии, написаны на норвежском (в том числе древненорвежском) и исландском языках.

История группы начинается со встречи Грутла Кьеллсона и Ивара Бьорнсона в 1990 году. Ивар в то время играл в трэш-метал-группе Obnoxious. В результате их встречи была образована группа Phobia, игравшая дум/дэт-метал. Но она вскоре распалась, записав две демо-ленты — «The Last Settlement of Ragnarok» и «Feverish Convulsions». Некоторое время спустя, после распада, Грутле Хьеллсон и Ивар Бьорнсон повстречали Трима Турсона (друг детства Ивара). Они-то и решили сформировать новую группу, впоследствии названную Enslaved. Название было взято из песни норвежской блэк-метал-группы Immortal «Enslaved in Rot» (демо The Northern Upins Death (1990)).

После 6 месяцев репетиций Enslaved записали первое демо, которое состояло из двух треков и не было даже смикшировано. Из-за ужасного качества записи было решено не пускать его в тираж. Следующее демо — Yggdrasill — было записано летом 1992 года и содержало 6 треков (демо было переиздано в 1995 году на лейбле Moonfog Productions в виде сплита с группой Satyricon). На Enslaved обратил внимание лейбл Deathlike Silence Records. Но следующий релиз — сплит с Emperor — вышел на только что образовавшемся лейбле Candlelight Records.

Первый альбом Enslaved получил название Vikingligr Veldi и был выпущен на Deathlike Silence Productions в сотрудничестве и при помощи лейбла Voices of Wonder.

В ноябре 1994 года вышел второй альбом Frost (был выпущен на Osmose Productions), с ним к Enslaved пришла мировая известность. После выхода альбома последовало европейское турне The Winter War Tour вместе с Marduk.

В 1997 году выходит долгожданный альбом Eld. На альбоме появилось много сложных элементов, появился чистый вокал. После выпуска группу покинул Харальд Хельгесон, заменивший до этого Трима. На смену приходит барабанщик Gehenna Дирге Реп. В новом составе был записан альбом Blodhemn.

Новый альбом Enslaved получил название Axioma Ethica Odini. Его выход запланирован на 27 сентября 2010 года в Европе и 28 сентября в Северной Америке.
